Helen Elizabeth Meine, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at her home.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 A.M. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Roger Madden officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. The service will be live streamed at https://youtu.be/Qh02G0IKwLk. A private inurnment will follow at Logan Park Cemetery. Helen was born December 27, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Lorabell (Andrews) Robertson. She was raised on a farm outside Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School. Following graduation, she enrolled in University of Iowa in Iowa City where she met her future husband, Dean Meine. The couple married on August 24, 1952. To this union, 4 children were born. After marriage, the couple moved to Sioux City. Helen was a homemaker and worked for many charities. In 1982, she graduated from Briar Cliff University with her bachelor’s degree majoring in psychology and minoring in music.
Helen was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church. She played bells and sang in the church choir for many years. She was a member of LaSertoma and was very involved with PEO. She was instrumental in pioneering a program to screen children for their eye sight in kindergarten. She was an instructor for the nationwide Bible Study Fellowship group.
Helen enjoyed music and playing piano. She also enjoyed playing golf and tennis.
Those left to honor her memory are her children Laurel Meine of Sioux City, Richard Meine of Nevada, IA, Gayle (Kelly) Hanson of Sioux City; grandchildren Theodore Katseres, John Thacker, Shawn Blomberg, Andrea Haldin, Anne-Marie Vivan, Richard Thacker, Brianna Blomberg, Timothy Hanson; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dean Meine; son John Meine; brother Lyle Robertson; and sisters Jean Cain and Marie Edison.
