James D. "Jim" Hansen

July 3, 1947 — October 28, 2022

James D. “Jim” Hansen, 75, of Sioux City passed away Friday, October 28, 2022 at a local hospital with his family by his side after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. 

Visitation with the family will be from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Friday, November 4, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  Private graveside services will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jim was born July 3, 1947 in Sioux City, the son of Marvin and Marie (Reisch) Hansen.  He graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School and attended WITCC for automotive repair.  Jim married Carol Bergmann on June 27, 1987 in Sioux City.  He was employed in the autobody repair business for years and retired as an automotive insurance adjuster for American Family Insurance.  After retirement, Jim drove vehicles for Knoepfler Chevrolet Company.  He had a passion for cars including restoring a number of classics, a love of dogs and reading, and his time with his beloved family.  Jim was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church.   

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Carol Hansen; son Scott Hopper wife Heidi Terrell of Overland Park, KS; daughters:  Jacque and husband Craig White of Rogers, AR and Nicole and husband Chad Chartier of Austin, TX; grandchildren:  Andrew, Christian, Adam, and Jackson Hopper of Overland Park, KS, Brandon (Katie) White of Bentonville, AR, Shelby (Andrew) Conley of Cave Springs, AR, and Ana and Cole Chartier of Austin, TX; great grandson Miles White of Bentonville, AR; his sister Sandra (Sam) Whatley of Anderson, IN; his brother Dennis (Sue) Hansen of Sergeant Bluff; nieces, nephews, special extended family; and his beloved best friends, his huskies, Beau and Bella.

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Siouxland Humane Society in Jim’s memory.
