James "Jim" L. Anderson

James "Jim" L. Anderson, 67, of Ponca, NE passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at his residence while surrounded by his family after a short battle with lung cancer.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Peter Speiser officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE.Jim was born on July 23, 1948 in Sioux City, IA, the son of Lloyd and Jenette (Speckman) Anderson. He graduated from Ponca High School and attended Dana College at Blair, NE and USD in Vermillion, SD on baseball scholarships. He received his Associate's Degree from Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City, IA. Jim married Maureen Persinger on August 19, 1978 (both Maureen and Jim's dad's birthdate) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, NE. Jim worked at Target, Lowe's and various other places. He retired after working for Target for twenty years in February 2004.He was an assistant baseball coach for his son, Josh's team and was on the Highland Oaks Golf Course Board of Directors in Ponca. Jim enjoyed baseball, golfing, bowling, fishing and hunting.Survivors include his wife, Maureen Anderson of Ponca, NE; sons, Brandon (Brittany) Anderson of Sioux City, IA and their children, Mia, Harper and Rylan; Josh (April Choquette) Anderson and their daughter, Delilah; Jake Anderson; and daughter, Mallory Anderson all of Ponca; brothers, Roger (Kay) Anderson of Sioux City, IA and Bob (Cindy) Anderson of Hubbard, NE; in-laws, Shawn (Dawn) Persinger of Cushing, IA and Micaela (Larry) Hansen of South Sioux City, NE.Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Jenette Anderson; a brother, Arlen Anderson; in-laws, Mike and Melva Persinger; and a niece, Zoi.
