James W. “Jim” Jeschke, 76, of Sioux City, IA passed away at a local hospital on May 18, 2022 from a stroke. Visitation will be held at Nativity Catholic Church, 4242 Natalia Way in Sioux City, IA from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a rosary starting at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is handling the arrangements. Jim was born October 26, 1945 in Denison, Iowa, the son of Bill and Ella Jeschke. Jim was raised on a farm in Crawford County, Iowa. He graduated from Denison High School in 1963, and moved to Sioux City to study accounting.
Jim met his wife, Stephanie, in 1975, and they were married at Immaculate Conception Church on May 1, 1976. He worked at St. Joseph/Mercy Hospital for 32 years in the physical therapy department and housekeeping.
Jim particularly enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota; traveling with his wife Stephanie, and spending time with his dog, Wylie. Wylie has been searching the house for Jim ever since he was taken to the hospital.
Jim attended Nativity Church and enjoyed working at the annual fish fries.
Survivors include Jim’s wife Stephanie; brother Jerry and Helen Jeschke of Houston, Texas and sister Darlene Taylor of Douglasville, Georgia; in-laws Mike and Carolyn Ellwanger, Tim Ellwanger, Dan and Melinda DeMarest, and Todd and Julia Von Ehwegen. Jim also had many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepbrother Fred and Bonnie Jacobsen.
Jim was a quiet man who never spoke ill of others, and he will be missed by his family and friends.
The family wishes to thank everyone at UnityPoint St. Luke’s hospital who took excellent care of Jim in his final days.
