James H. "Jim" Kempers, 56, of Dakota City, Nebraska passed away on March 17, 2009, as he was surrounded by his family at his home, after a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at River Hills Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska, with Pastor Kevin Roach officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Mohr Funeral Home, 1000 W. 29th Street, South Sioux City, Nebraska, with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.Jim was born in LeMars, Iowa to Kenneth and Ann (Herrmann) Kempers on October 12, 1952 The family moved to Sioux City where Jim attended Sioux City Schools. He married Bonnie Heikes on August 25, 1972 in Dakota City, Nebraska. He worked for Senftner Volkswagen for 15 years and Charlie Zook Motors for 16 years. He liked to fish, hunt, collect coins and spend time with his family. He was a big Husker fan.Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Dakota City; sons, James J. and Jesse (Cassie) Kempers and daughter, Bobbie (Andy) Zalme all of Dakota City; grandchildren, Jacob, Jace and Jada Kempers, Tyler, Brady and Jude Zalme; special nephew, Mikael Schnee; special niece, Mattie Schnee; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tim and Mardi Schnee of Dakota City; brothers, Eugene (Linda), Keith (Patty) and Dwayne (Jodi) Kempers of Sioux City, and Bob (Dianne) Kempers of Kingsley, Iowa; sisters, Kathy (Rick) Saunders of Sioux City and Diane (Terry) Eanes of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Susan (John) Hansen of Sioux City and DiAnne (Pam) Heikes of Houston, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Ann Kempers; in-laws, Harvey and Marty Heikes; nephew, Mark Kempers and great-niece, Abby Wiskus.
