James Herbert Santee, Sr., 72 of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the Continental Springs Nursing Home. A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021 at Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Awe officiating. Mohhr and Becker-Hunt Funeral Home assisted with the cremation.
James was born on March 18, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa to Martin and Dorothy (née Fowler) Santee. He liked to say he was born on the old combination bridge at the Iowa-Nebraska state line, but we never knew if it was true, or if he was just messing with people. Jim attended South Sioux City Schools up until the tenth grade, when he left to begin supporting his family after his father became disabled. He worked at the Sioux City Foundry for thirty-six years, achieving the position of “Lead Man”. Jim also worked numerous side jobs over the years. Woodworking, fishing, and tinkering were among his favorite hobbies. He had an acute stroke in 2006 that forced him to retire. Jim had been in declining health for the last fifteen years.
James is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Teresa (née Roth) of South Sioux City, NE; four children Kitty (Randall) Matz, James M. (Allison) Santee, James H. (Tiffany) Santee, and Terri Santee; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and his youngest sister Betty (David) Laumbach.
James was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, and four grandchildren.
