Janet L. McFarlane, 82, of Sioux City, passed away surrounded by her family on January 24, 2021. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 28 at 4:00 P.M. at Central Baptist Church. Per the pandemic, masks and social distancing are required. A private burial will be at Liberty Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is handling the arrangements. Janet was born on May 29, 1938 in Calumet, IA to Ernest and Clara (Kopp) Mugge. She graduated high school and went on to obtain her nursing degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City. Janet worked as a RN for several years until her children were born.
She was united in marriage to John A. McFarlane on November 2, 1967 in Sioux City, he preceded her in death in 2011.
Janet was a woman of strong faith whose main desire was live for Christ and serve Him. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church for over 40 years. She also served at Siouxland Gospel Mission’s Women's Shelter and worked at the International Center for Biblical Counseling.
She was an outstanding mom and trusted friend to many.
Early in life she enjoyed playing tennis and has always been an avid reader. Throughout life she found pleasure in entertaining. She was creative making cards, centerpieces and party favors.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Sally (Dean) McFarlane-Parrott, Okemos, MI; Ernie (Robin) McFarlane, Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: Clare McFarlane-Parrott and Joshua McFarlane-Parrott.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and 2 sisters.
