Janet Lynn Saunders-Kern

Janet Lynn Saunders-Kern, 76 of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at a local hospital.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Jackson, Nebraska with Father Andrew Sohm as Celebrant.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.  Visitation, with the family present will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to the Mass.  Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Janet was born on August 15, 1944 in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa to Eugene and Luella (Pedersen) Saunders.  She received her education in the South Sioux City Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1962.  She resided in Jackson, Nebraska until her marriage to Terry Kern on June 28, 1980, when the couple made Sioux City, Iowa their home.  Janet worked at Younkers, in the Notions Department, and in the Camera Department for over ten years.  When she left Younkers, she became a homemaker, raising her son Johnathan.  She was a proud former member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska. 

Janet is survived by her husband Terry of Sioux City; son Johnathan Saunders Kern; two granddaughters Genevieve and Daphne Kern; brother Elliotte (Tina) Saunders of Jackson, Nebraska; and sister Karen (Rick) Oster of Beloit, Wisconsin.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kirk Saunders, and sister Shirley.
