Jeanette "Jan" Smith was born on September 1, 1943, in Liverpool, England. She passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 81. She lived a remarkable life, marked by resilience, compassion, and a unique sense of humor.

Jan grew up on the Isle of Wight in England. In her late teenage years, She joined the U.K. Air Force, serving in the Fighter Command. This pivotal period laid the groundwork for her independent spirit as she later moved to the United States in the early 1970s. After living in Omaha and then western Nebraska, she made her home in South Sioux City, NE. Jan dedicated over 30 years to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, where she worked as an EKG Technician before her retirement.

In 1982, Jan met the love of her life, Mike Gill. Together, they created a lifetime of cherished memories, particularly enjoying their time camping. Jan's caring and giving nature was complemented by her candid personality; she spoke her mind freely, exhibiting a sense of authenticity that many admired. Although she was a private person, her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Jan had a deep affinity for dogs and expressed her creativity through knitting, producing many special pieces that her family will forever treasure.

Jan is survived by the love of her life, Mike Gill, and three daughters: Sharon Butts, Shawn Hatch, and Christina Gill. She was preceded in death by her parents and her biological siblings.

Abiding by Jan's wishes, cremation will take place and no services are planned. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
