Jeffrey W. Macfarlane

Jeffrey William Macfarlane, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 67. 

Jeff was born on July 14, 1954 to William “Bill” and Winnie Macfarlane. He was the second child of four and graduated from Central High School in 1972. He continued his education at Western Iowa Tech Community College in the carpentry program and later graduated from Trinity International University with a degree in Biblical Studies. He married Holly Shira Macfarlane on December 28th, 1985. They raised four daughters together.

Jeff had a passion for lifelong learning. He spent time reading and listening to podcasts, as well as having theological discussions with his daughters and friends. Jeff was a homebuilder for 45 years and his handy work can be seen all around Siouxland. He had a deep love for classical music and was a dedicated board member and supporter of the Sioux City Symphony.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Winnie, and his father-in-law David Shira. He is survived by his wife Holly; his four daughters: Hannah (Nick Kirkendall), Lucy (Alex Arroyo), Clara (Simon Coly), and Mae; his siblings Doug (Connie Macfarlane), Betsy (Gary Shubert), and Gini (Hal Woolworth); his mother-in-law, Bee Shira; his sister-in-law, Jill Shira; grandchild, Maximilian Arroyo; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

A service will be held on Friday, July 30th, in Stone State Park at the Wahkaw Shelter at 11 am. Jeff’s family looks forward to supporting the Sioux City Symphony, the WITCC carpentry program, and First Presbyterian Church with memorial gifts. Masks are much appreciated, especially when greeting and hugging one another and the family.
