Jerry J. Barnett, 80, of South Sioux City, NE passed away at a local hospital on Sunday, April 23, 2017.Memorial services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside services with military rites will be held at Dakota City Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 27, 2017.Jerry was born on July 13, 1936 in Sioux City, IA, the son of James and Glorene (Billheimer) Barnett. He attended South Sioux City schools. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958, during the Korean Conflict. Jerry married Betty O'Neill on September 9, 1970 and they were later divorced. They were blessed with 5 daughters. He worked for Marx Trucking and as a control board operator for Terra Chemicals for 24 years before retiring.He was a member of the South Sioux City American Legion Post 307. He derived great enjoyment from sitting around his Mom's table drinking coffee with his siblings. He was also an avid card player, loved the Cubs and Husker football, and enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica and listening to old time country music. Survivors include his daughters, Barb (Dave) Larimer of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Brenda (Mark) Charbonneau of Sioux City, IA, Brannan (Nick) Lampe of Omaha, NE, Beth (Tyson) Bodlak of Ponca, NE, Brook (Josh) Peck of Sioux City, IA; 9 grandchildren, Will and Sam Larimer, Eryn and Brady Lampe, Bailie, Blake and Ben Bodlak, and Delaney and Finnigan Peck; brothers, Tom (Terry) Barnett and Fred (Marsha) Barnett of South Sioux City, NE; brother-in-law, Terry Hansen of South Sioux City, NE; and many nieces and nephews.Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Glorene Barnett; siblings, Sally Strahl-Hansen and Bob Barnett; sister-in-law, Debbie Faga Barnett; a nephew, Jimmy Strahl; and niece, Kim Barnett.
