Jerry L. Dunne, 80, of Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at a local hospital. A public visitation will be held Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel from 5:00-8:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. A Private Memorial Mass and Graveside Service will be held. Jerry was born on May 18, 1941 in rural Remsen, Iowa to William and Edna (Groepper) Dunne. On June 20, 1964 he married Caryl Wittkop at St. Mary’s Church in Remsen. He served our nation in the Air National Guard following high school, and served for one year in Vietnam. When he returned to Siouxland, he attended Briarcliff University, graduating in 1972.

 

Following graduation from Briarcliff, Jerry worked as a corporate pilot for IBP. He then went full time with the Air National Guard, where he worked for over 40 years before retiring as a Brigadier General for the 185th Air Refueling Wing as a Commander of Logistics.

 

Jerry was a member of Church of the Nativity in Sioux City, alongside his wife Caryl. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Caryl Dunne; his daughters: Cindy Digmann (Kevin) and Kim Jansen (Jeff); his grandchildren: Matt, Zach, Taylor, Bailey, and Gabe; his great-grandchildren: Wesley and one more on the way; and his siblings: Phyllis, Ron, and Bill, Jr.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edna.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry’s name may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the charity of your choice.
