She attended Valentine High School and graduated in 1949 (and had attended her 70th class reunion earlier this year!). On June 1, 1949 she married Charles Sharp in Valentine. The two lived in Valentine until 1950, when they moved to Sparks, NE. They lived in various places including: Sparks, Millboro, SD, Valentine, Ponca, and Obert before finally settling in Wakefield, NE in 1976. Together, they lived in Wakefield until Charles’ passing in 2017.
Jo Ann was a homemaker as she and her husband raised their children until they moved to Ponca in 1973. There, she became a certified nursing assistant and worked in skilled care settings as well as working in home health care throughout her career.
Jo Ann was very involved with her church, Wakefield Presbyterian Church, and was a member of PEO for many years. She also volunteered at the Wakefield Senior Center. In her free time, she square danced with Charles, attended coffee twice a day with her Sidelines coffee group, and cheered on her grandchildren at their various sporting events. She was a fan of all Nebraska Cornhusker sports, and was also a superb card player.
She is survived by her children: Charliss Marshall of Lincoln, NE; Corliss (Steve) Hassler of Emerson, NE; Nancy (Larry) Wagner of Fremont, NE; Jim (Jill) Sharp of Dakota City, NE; and Jeremy (Amy) Grace of South Sioux City, NE; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Gail) Gray of Newcastle, WY; sister-in-law, Doris Sims of Sierra Vista, AZ; her close cousin, Phyllis (Randall) Aller of Mitchell, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
