Coan, 75, of South Sioux City, NE passed away following a brief illness, while surrounded by his family at a Sioux City hospital on Saturday, December 29, 2012.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Father Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery in rural Homer, NE. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the funeral home. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Emerson. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. John worked as a carpenter and was a rural mail carrier. After retirement he worked part time at Atokad Park.He was a past member of the South Sioux City American Legion. He enjoyed horse racing, Nebraska football, and loved woodworking and his grandchildren.Survivors include his wife, Vada Coan of South Sioux City, NE; children, Rick (Angie) Coan of Jackson, NE and Shelly (Greg) Hosch of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Brittanie, Breisha, Briley, and Spencer: 4 great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Coan of Wayne, NE.John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Coan; brothers, Francis and Bernie; and a sister, Ione.
