John C. Lanning

John C. Lanning, 79, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at a local hospital.

A private memorial service will be held Monday, April 26, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. 

John was born April 14, 1942 in Springfield, MO, the son of John and Alene (Carter) Lanning. At a young age, the family moved to Sioux City where he attended Central High School. On July 11, 1959, he married Kathleen Zook. To this union, four sons were born. Shortly after marriage, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for three years. Following his discharge from the Army, he began working for Western States Manufacturing where he worked until his retirement at age 65.

John enjoyed fishing, golfing, and watching sports. He was also an avid hunter; particularly pheasant hunting.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 61 years, Kathleen of Sioux City; sons Mike (Bione) Lanning, Mark (Lisa) Lanning, Matt Lanning, all of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Mitchell.
