John Charles McPherson, 75, of South Sioux City, passed away on November 19th at home surrounded by loved ones after a brief battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday, November 26th at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City. There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon immediately following the funeral service at the South Sioux City Senior Center, anyone that was touched by John’s fun-loving spirit is invited to attend. There will be a private burial at Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City at a later date. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral service at 10 am. John was born in Sioux City, IA on December 19th, 1945, the son of Doris Hamburg and Charles McPherson. He was well known by the name “Punky” amongst his longest childhood friends and family. He served in the Navy from 1963 – 1967, then he returned to South Sioux where he built his used car businesses and raised his family until he retired a few years ago. John was blessed with a couple great loves when he married Brenda Singer, then many years later after being widowed he found love again and married Beverly Kirchner. John’s passion was his children and grandchildren. He loved throwing his annual 4th of July party and getting together with his friends to listen and play music.
John is survived by his daughters Tami Lawley of San Clemente, CA and her children (Tabatha, Kian and Isabelle), Brandi Vandenberg of Gretna, NE and her children (Shelby and Kylie), Renee Owen and her husband Jon and their children (Cameron and Madi) Megan Cooper and her husband Scott of Sioux Falls, SD and their son (Nolan), a son John John McPherson of Sloan, IA and his children (Josh Rysavy, Chloe McPherson-Alexander, Andrew Pippitt, Tyler McPherson and Vanessa Guerro), his special friend/significant other Helen Foix, a sister Barbie Anderson her sons (Sean and Ryan), grandchildren Kourtney Nicholson, Aleka Kafka, Bram Heilmann, Koleman Dooley, a niece Julie Sandau, several great grandchildren and many beloved friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Brenda and Beverly, his sister Lorrie Sandau, his son James Strahl and his grandson Jesse Rysavy.
