John R. "Roger" Manners, 83, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Pastors Kenny Hsu and Henry Witte officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service on Friday.Roger was born on January 16, 1933 in Ponca, NE, the son of Howard and Pauline (Magel) Manners. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA. Roger married Melania Gaviola in March, 1975 in Cebu City, Philippines. The couple lived in Sioux City for two years before moving to South Sioux City. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired in 1988, after working for thirty-one and a half years. After retiring, he drove a school bus in South Sioux City for Durham School Services.He was a member of the National Assn. of Retired Letter Carriers. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and Husker football.Survivors include his wife, Mellie Manners of South Sioux City; two children, Melody Manners of South Sioux City and Jeff Manners of Aliso Viejo, CA; two half-sisters, Stephanie Mason of Omaha, NE and Valerie (Jerry) Oshesky of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brothers-in-law, Curt Stoever and John Marrinan of Sioux City, IA; and several nieces and nephews.Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Pauline Manners; two sisters, Carolyn Stoever and JoAnn Marrinan; a brother, Stanley Manners; and brother-in-law, Robert Mason.
