Joseph Anthony 'Joe' Fleming

April 7, 1942 — December 6, 2020

Joseph Anthony “Joe” Fleming, 78 of rural Hinton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at a local hospital.  A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Reverend Russ Senstad and Reverend David Zirpel officiating.  A private family graveside service will be on Monday, December 14th at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements.

 

Joe was born on April 7, 1942 in Sioux City to Paul and Mary (Thauren) Fleming.  He attended Heelan High School and Western Iowa Tech Community College.  Joe married Constance “Connie” Marilyn Johnson on April 23, 1960 in Correctionville, Iowa.  He was a life-long resident of Sioux City until 2004 when he and Connie retired and moved to rural Hinton. 

 

Joe retired from Gelita of Sioux City in 2003 after 35 years as a plant foreman.  He enjoyed the outdoors and loved football, especially cheering on the ISU Cyclones from his “special seat” in the Sukup End Zone and tailgating before and after every home game.  His favorite pastimes were spending time with his family in the backyard pool, playing cards, fishing on annual trips to Minnesota and many trips to the Caribbean. 

 

Joe is survived by the-love-of-his-life for over 60 years, wife Connie Fleming of rural Hinton; son Joe Fleming, Jr. of Hinton; daughter and son-in-law Liz and Gary Hanna of Sioux City; granddaughter Lexi Hanna and fiancé Tony Gbogbo of Des Moines; granddaughter Tessa Kelly and husband Nick Kelly of Clive; daughter and son-in-law Jenny and Rod Rabe of Byron, Minnesota; grandson Adam Rabe and wife Cindy Rabe of Auburn Hills, Michigan; granddaughter Emma Rabe and great-grandson Blake Larson of LeRoy, Minnesota; and grandson Jacob Rabe of Auburn Hills, Michigan.
