Joyce E. Grosvenor

Joyce E. Grosvenor, 95, of Ponca, NE passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Elms Health Care Center in Ponca, NE.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at United Methodist Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Lorri Kentner officiating. Burial will be in the Daily Cemetery in rural Newcastle, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.Joyce was born on February 27, 1921 in Pender, NE, the daughter of Ralph and Lois (Smith) Crain. She graduated from Ponca High School in 1937 and attended Wayne State College. Joyce and Burt "Vernon" Grosvenor were married on November 10, 1939 by Rev. Daughtee at the United Methodist parsonage in Ponca. The couple had three daughters, Verna Joy, Helen and Anne. They farmed for 4 years at the Armstrong home West of Ponca. The couple moved to the Daily Township farm and lived there until they retired in 1982, when they moved to rural Ponca.She was a very involved member of the United Methodist Church in Ponca, the Dixon County Historical Society, Treasurer of the Daily Guild, Secretary-Treasurer of the Daily Cemetery, and she served on the Election Board in Dixon County for 46 years. She also belonged to the Rainbow Strollers Square Dance Club and the Missouri River Jumpers Square Dance Campers. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, square dancing, camping, quilting, sewing and painting.Survivors include 3 daughters, Verna Joy and her husband, Dietrich Schweers and Helen E. and her husband, John Schweers, all of Ponca, NE and Elizabeth "Anne" Smith of Sioux City, IA; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, Lisa (Steve) Mollenhauer, Amanda (Zac) Dodson, Kimberly Mollenhauer, Rick (Marcella) Schweers, Sarah (Kory) Erickson, Tyler (Amanda) Schweers, Mattie and Abby Schweers, Lora (Jerry) Truesdell, Grace Truesdell, Theresa (Dave) Navrkal, Dakota Navrkal, Kathy (Doyle) Fischer, Devin Fischer, Steven Schweers, Austin and Hunter Schweers, Christina (Jim) Nelson, Morgan Nelson, Brian (Carmen) Schweers, Holden and Hudson Schweers, Heidi (Jeff) Rush, Jada, Maya and George Rush, Brian (Brenda) Smith, Angela (Jay) Chesterman, Josh Montagne (Jade Meier), Joslyn Montagne, Brad Smith (Kelly Meier); 4 great-great grandchildren, Jetta, Lennex, Ethan and Matthew; brother-in-law, Harold Grosvenor of Ponca, NE; sisters-in-law, Alice Swick of Dixon, NE and Naomi Grosvenor of Sioux City, IA; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lois Crain; her husband, Vernon Grosvenor on December 29, 2005; a great-grandson, Dylan Fischer; and sister, Lois Jean Gray.
