Judith Ann Nicolls, 78, of Sioux City, passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones, Saturday, July 17, 2021. A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 23, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Judith was born the daughter of Donald C. and Rebecca (Campbell) Smith on November 13, 1942 in Stevens, South Dakota. She graduated from Central High School in 1960. She took several college courses at WIT, Morningside College and Briar Cliff University. Judith married Roger Nicolls on February 7, 1961. They enjoyed 60 years together.
Judith worked for the City of Sioux City for 37 years, retiring as the Field Service Director.
She was an Avid bird watcher. She enjoyed fishing and boating. She also enjoyed camping with Roger, especially in Yankton and Texas. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her close family.
She served on the board for the Municipal Credit Union for over 40 years. She served in the United States Navy Reserve. She was honored at the Sioux City Museum, recognized as the first woman to hold a traditionally man’s position and nominated as Siouxland Woman of the Year twice.
Judith is survived by her husband, Roger Nicolls of Sioux City; daughters, Teresa (Ken) Kamradt, Julie Sample, and Nancy Nicolls (Chris Bubba Matthews) all of Sioux City; sisters, Donna Foxhoven, Linda Vavra, Betty West, and Rebecca Roemmich; granddaughter, Katie (James) Warner of Ponca; and great-grandchildren, Belle and Declan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William “Bud” Smith; sister, Blanche Groszkrueger; son-in-law, Steven Sample; and brothers-in-law, David West, Warren Vavra, Robert Groszkrueger and Leo Foxhoven.
