Our beloved Judy Jones of Sioux City, IA left in the arms of the angels on June 7, 2015 while surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 12, 2015 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA. Visitation with the family present will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the funeral home.Judith Ann Jones was born in Correctionville, IA on March 25, 1947 to Ida Mae (Barker) and Basil Jones. She graduated from Correctionville High School in 1965. She moved to Sioux City after graduation to seek employment. Judy was always employed in an industry of helping people. In 1977 she met her true love, Jim Groenewold. Jim and Judy enjoyed life, traveling every summer to Lake Chetek, WI for a week to spend time with Jim's late brother, Art, and his three children and families. They made many trips to Lake Sundown, IA to join in festivities with Jim's sister, Jeanne and her four children and grandchildren. As dedicated Iowa Hawkeye fans, football games in Iowa City and bowl games throughout the country created many happy times. They also enjoyed many fun times watching Hawkeye football and basketball with a close group of friends at the Town House.A love of all animals prompted Judy to adopt several stray cats and dogs at different times in her life. Their dog, Buddy was a frequent companion at her bedside when she became ill. Her family was also very touched by the steady stream of visitors, phone calls and cards when she was ill. Judy will be sorely missed by many family and friends.She is survived by her husband, Jim Groenewold; an uncle, Ken Barker; sisters-in-law, Jeanne (Red) Sampson and Carol Groenewold; nephews, Jeff (Fay) Sampson, Dr. Ann Sampson, Carey (Rick) Jorgenson, Joel Sampson, Gary (Theresa) Groenewold, David (Suzanne) Groenewold, Carol (Dennis) Haines; many great nieces and nephews; several cousins, including, Barb (Bill) Springer, Jim (Marilyn) Anderson and John (Jean) Barker; a host of friends, including special friends Jean Meyer, Diane Roach and Stacie Means; and her special dog, Buddy.Judy was preceded indeath by her parents, Basil and Ida Mae Jones; and her brother-in-law, Art Groenewold.The family would like to express their gratitude to St. Luke's Hospital, Hospice of Siouxland and Ronda Klinkenborg for their care and compassion during this difficult time.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Siouxland Humane Society and Hospice of Siouxland.
