Judy Vandenberg, 64, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Judy passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, August 12, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Monday, prior to the service at the funeral home. She attended Akron High School, graduating in 1968. She married Richard Vandenberg on January 23, 1971, and they had three children. They raised their family in South Sioux City. Rich passed away on May 15, 2000. Judy continued to live and work in South Sioux City, working for the South Sioux City Schools in the elementary and middle schools kitchens for over 30 years, until she recently retired. Judy spent the last several years of her life with her companion, Boyd Davenport, until he passed away earlier this year. Judy enjoyed gardening and being outside, until her illness no longer allowed her to do what she enjoyed doing most.Judy is survived by her mother, Harriet Shear of Cherokee, Iowa; her children, Melissa (and her husband Greg) of Boise, Idaho, Rick (and his wife, Christine) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Chris (and his wife Brandi) of Madison, Wisconsin; her two wonderful granddaughters, Shelby and Kylie Vandenberg; two brothers; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews.Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her brother Butch; and her father, Randall.Judy and her family would like to thank Hospice of Siouxland for the wonderful care they provided Judy in the last days of her life, and all of her very supportive and caring family and friends who came to visit her in the last months.
