Kathy was born June 2, 1940 in Lemmon, SD, one of thirteen children of Bernard and JoAnn (Phelps) Galvin. The family moved to Dakota City where Kathleen was raised and attended school. Kathleen married William Sappingfield, to this union 3 children were born; Roe, Scott, and JoAnn. The family settled in the Sioux City area. The couple later divorced. Afterword, she traveled extensively through the Northwest coastline living in California where she worked in the food and beverage industry. She also lived in Oregon and Alaska. She moved back to California when her parent’s health declined and took care of them until they both passed. In 1995, Kathleen retired early due to her health and moved to Newcastle. She restored the upstairs apartment of the Bruss Grocery Store and made it her home. In 1997, she met the love of her life, Joey McArdle who was her soul-companion until she passed. In 2004, she was diagnosed with spinal stenosis which caused several health complications. Kathleen battled hard and gave it all she had. In the last 3 years, her health declined. Since April 2021, she was at home under hospice and Joey’s care until her passing.
Kathleen enjoyed gardening, auctions and garage sales, gambling, crafting, horse racing, and going to casinos. Christmastime was her favorite time of the year. She loved to decorate her home and have open houses during the holiday.
