Kenneth E. McDonald, 72, of Jackson, NE passed away at a Sioux City hospital on Sunday, July 29, 2012.Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City, NE with Rev. Stephen S. Niles officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Dakota City Cemetery in Dakota City, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Condolences to the family may be posted online at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Kenneth was born in rural Belden, NE on October 28, 1939, the son of Elmer L. and Dorthea C. (Bodenstedt) McDonald. He graduated from Belden High School. He entered the Army in February, 1958. He married LaVonne Loftis in Belden, NE on March 5, 1958. After serving in the Army he worked in auto parts stores in Tilden, NE, South Sioux City, NE and Sioux City, IA before managing a service station in Leeds. He then worked for Auto Parts and Exchange in Sioux City, IA, and purchased the company in 1975. When he retired, he and LaVonne moved to rural Jackson, NE.Kenneth was a member of First Presbyterian Church, was past president of the Cornbelt Buyers Group, and current president of St. John's River Association. He enjoyed boating on the Missouri River, tinkering with cars, and spending time with his family and friends. He was lovingly referred to by his wife as "Mr. Good Neighbor" and "Everybody's Buddy".Survivors include his wife, LaVonne McDonald of Jackson, NE; children, Randy McDonald (Brenda Braunger) of Dakota Dunes, SD, Tammy McDonald of Coon Rapids, MN, Scott McDonald (Robin Sitzmann) of Jackson, NE, Lori (Tim) Sitzmann of Sioux City, IA, Todd McDonald and fianc, Julie Wemark of Cresco, IA, Tiffany (Mike) Miller of Story City, IA; foster daughter, Amy (Tre) Elder of Dakota Dunes, SD; brother, Larry (Irene) McDonald of Anthony, NM; sister-in-law, Margaret McDonald of Roy Utah; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl (Ronald) Tague of LeMars, IA; former sister-in-law, Jo Vogel of El Paso, TX; grandchildren, Leslie (Jay) Gonzalez, Blake McDonald (Darline Compere), Tausha McDonald, Taneasha McDonald, Alyssa and Sierra Miller, Jared, Brett and Connor Sitzmann; step-grandchildren, John (Kristie) Orr and Mandie Orr; foster grandchildren, Savannah and Isabella Elder; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Barb (John) Olson of Jefferson, SD; and many nieces and nephews.Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Dorthea McDonald; daughter-in-law, Kathy McDonald; brothers, sisters and in-laws, Hazel (Clayton) Halleen, Harold (Juanita) McDonald, Margaret (Kenneth) Brummels, Merrill McDonald, Norma (Darrell) Johnson, Harvey McDonald; and infant sister, Shirley McDonald.
