Kuen was born November 30, 1963 in Tai Pei, Taiwan, the daughter of Young Sun Yeh and Sushiah Li Yeh. The daughter of a famous chef, Kuen moved with her family to Los Angeles, California at age 17. A few years later she came to Omaha, Nebraska to work for her sister who owned a restaurant. That is where she met her husband Steve. In 1986, the family moved Hunan Palace to Sioux City and operated in the Mayfair Mall for several years before moving to the restaurant’s current location on Singing Hills Boulevard. In 2007, Kuen earned her real estate license and began her 15 year career as an associate with United Real Estate Solutions. She loved working with her clients and helped countless people achieve the dream of home ownership. Always professional, Kuen earned the respect of her colleagues and clients. The kindness, immense generosity and positivity she shared with others will be greatly missed.
First and foremost though, Kuen loved her family. She is survived by her husband Steve, two sons Calvin (Lexi Anderson) Chang and Brian Chang, along with five sisters and two brothers. In a 2017 cover article for Siouxland Woman magazine, Kuen talked about her family and the power of positivity. “My life is a lot about my kids,” she said. “I want them to experience everything from music to sports because I didn’t have those opportunities growing up.” Kuen went on to offer this advice on looking for the good in people and in your situation by saying, “I am happy every day; making every day meaningful. Life’s never smooth, but if you are positive, not wasting time complaining or worrying, you make it easier on yourself.”
Kuen was preceded in death by her parents.
