Larry E. Chappelear, 71, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at a Sioux City hospital.Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, August 10, 2015 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. The family requests that Husker attire be worn Sunday evening. Larry was born on May 10, 1944 in Ponca, NE, the son of Marvin and Ardith (Gilmer) Chappelear. He graduated from Ponca High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965. Larry married Rita Hoch on October 2, 1965 in South Sioux City, NE. The coupled lived in South Sioux City until 1976, when they moved to Broomfield, Colorado. They moved back to South Sioux City in 2005. Larry worked at various positions in the airline industry, retiring from American Airlines after forty years of service.He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE and the American Legion. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling and gardening. He was also an avid Husker football fan, holding season tickets for nearly twenty years, and a Green Bay Packers fan. He was very proud to be a Green Bay Packer's shareholder.Survivors include his wife, Rita Chappelear of South Sioux City, NE; sons, Kenneth Chappelear of Sioux City, IA and Brian (Teresa) Chappelear of South Sioux City, NE; granddaughter, Sarah (Alex) Lake and their son, Hunter of Sioux City, IA; grandson, Daniel Chappelear of South Sioux City, NE; sister, Bev (Dennis) Merkel of Crofton, NE; brother, Dann (Caryn) Chappelear of Crofton, NE; brothers-in-law, Larry (Judy) Hoch, Jim (Luann) Hoch and Tom (Renee) Hoch; sisters-in-law, Julie Hoch, Donna Hoch and Patty (Scott) Beermann; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Abby.Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Ardith Chappelear; father and mother-in-law, Daniel and Berniece Hoch; and sister-in-law, Jeannie (Hoch) Hueschen.
