Larry E. Lowe, 79, of Ponca, NE passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at a Sioux City hospital.Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, NE with Father Andrew L. Sohm officiating. Burial will be in Calvary at South Creek Cemetery in rural Ponca, with military rites conducted by the Ponca American Legion Post 117. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.Larry was born on January 26, 1937 in rural Ponca, NE, the son of Leo and Mary (Bennett) Lowe. He graduated from Ponca High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. Larry married Louise Rohan on February 20, 1960 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle, NE. The couple settled in Ponca, where they raised four sons. Larry worked as an auctioneer for farm, estate and livestock auctions for 53 years.He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Ponca American Legion Post 117 and the Ponca Community Club. He treasured his grandchildren, enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his family, and visiting with friends daily at Cook's Country Store and the Ponca Coop.Survivors include his wife, Louise Lowe of Ponca, NE; sons, Brad (Neta) Lowe of Dumfries, Virginia, Bruce (Lesley) Lowe of Omaha, NE, Bill (Karla) Lowe of Grimes, IA and Bob (Melinda) Lowe of Norfolk, NE; 17 grandchildren, Brent, Jackie, Blair, Jesse, Caroleena, Chloe, AJ, Parker, Kate, Jenna, Jared, Jake, JD, Reese, Piper, Kyle and Kloe; a brother, Jim (Bonnie) Lowe of Nebraska City, NE; sister, Michaeleen (Jerry) Boulay of Omaha, NE; and many nieces, nephews and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mary Lowe; an infant granddaughter, Rachel; siblings, Jack (Rosie) Lowe, Joe Lowe, and Mary Jane (Larry) Walsh; a nephew, Mark Lowe; and niece, Becky Pick.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Larry and Louise Lowe and Sons Family Scholarship Endowment, Ponca Community Educational Foundation Inc., PO 568, Ponca, NE 68770.
