Lea Ann Jefferson

December 28, 1938 — August 25, 2021

Lea Ann Jefferson, 82 of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at her residence comforted by family.  Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Central Baptist Church with Reverend Lloyd Grant officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 30th at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m.  Online condolences may be offered at www.meyerbroschapels.com

 

Lea Ann was born on December 28, 1938 in Bethel, Kansas (now Kansas City, Kansas) to Lee Arthur and Althea Claudine (Vanderbilt) Hook.  She met her future husband, James Pat Jefferson, at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas where she graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.  Lea Ann later earned her Master’s Degree at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. 

 

Lea Ann taught in Kansas, Illinois, Georgia, and Louisiana before settling in Sioux City, Iowa.  She retired from Sioux City Community Schools, where she taught at Everett Elementary for 19 years.  Lea Ann loved God and family most of all, but also loved her friends, coworkers, and students.  She passed on her strong faith in Jesus Christ to her children and those all around her.  Lea Ann was active in many educational and church organizations, including: Sioux City Educational Association (of which, she is past President), held offices in SEA, NEA, and SUU, along with Jaycette Membership.  She was a former Vice President of the Retired Educators of Sioux City, past President of Baptist Women’s Group, along with teaching Sunday school.  She was passionate about her career, and her politics!  Lea Ann loved to read Harlequin romances, play cards, swim at 4 Seasons Health Club, arrange flowers, and socialize with her many friends through work, retired Educators of Sioux City, bible study, Red Hat Society, Sunday School, lunches and coffee with friends. 

 

Lea Ann is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, James Pat Jefferson; two daughters Sherri (Mark) Neiberger of Homer, Nebraska and Robin (Terry) Christensen of Sioux City, Iowa; three grandchildren Adam Neiberger of Homer, Nebraska, Trevor (Jasmine) Christensen of San Diego, California, and Blake Christensen of Sioux City, Iowa.

 

Lea Ann was preceded in death by her parents, and half-brother Lee Hook.
