Leila M. Sunt

Leila M. Sunt, 97, of Dakota City, NE passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City, NE.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.Leila was born in Sioux City, IA on June 12, 1915, the daughter of Jesse and Sophia Phillips. She graduated from South Sioux City High School. She married Willard Sunt on May 2, 1936. The couple lived in and around Dakota City. She was a homemaker before working as a cook for Mitchell's Caf, where she worked for 22 years. She then was a cook at other various places in South Sioux City. Willard passed away in 1989.Leila enjoyed sewing and was a very good seamstress. She also enjoyed handiwork, crocheting, taking care of her yard and flowers, spending time with her family, and watching baseball - especially the Braves and Cubs. She was a member of Eastern Star.Survivors include her daughter, Jeanette Jans; son, Everett Sunt; 4 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Phillips.Leila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard; 2 brothers, Roy and Charles Phillips; and 2 grandchildren.
