Leona D. Kendall, 94 of Homer, Nebraska passed away Monday, October 10, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 6:30 PM at the Homer United Methodist Church.
Leona was born the daughter of Lester and Dorothy (Fisher) Freese on June 6, 1928 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She married Robert “Bob” Bartling and to this union three children were born, Lonny, Morry, and Dorla. She later married Arnold Kendall. After his death she moved to Homer to be close to family.
Leona did bookkeeping and was a school cook for several years. She also owned and operated B&M Services in Walthill for about 10 years.
Sewing was her passion. She always had a project going. She enjoyed making blankets and quilts that she gave away to the homeless, the headstart program, and family members. She always liked doing crafting of all kinds and making Christmas decorations.
Leona is survived by her children, Lonny (Laurie) Bartling of Marietta, Oklahoma and Dorla (Ray) Hermelbracht of Homer, Nebraska; grandchildren, Blaze (Teresa) Bartling, Lacey (Dillon) May, Brian (Ann Shoenrock) Hermelbracht, Troy (Trey) Hermelbract, Chad (Lindsey) Hermelbracht, Jessica (Richard) Tipton, and Moriah (Chris) Whitner; great-grandchildren, Colt, Brylee, Dalton, Aubree, Payton, Rylie, Hazen, Emerson, McKenna, Cadence, and Briar; sister in law, Bethel Freese; and special niece, Debbie Freese.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bob and Arnold; son, Morry; brother, Big “Don Freese”; infant great-grandson, Dakota Bartling; and nephew, Scott Freese.
