Leonard E. Schonrock, 93, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Northern Hills Retirement Center in Sioux City.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Father Paul Albenesius officiating. Visitation with the family present will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Leonard was born on November 9, 1921 in Wagner, SD, the son of John and Rose (Heide) Schonrock. He played football for, and graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee, IA. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he finished his career, retiring in 1961. He attended college for three years, earning an Associate Degree in Mechanical Aeronautics. Leonard married Bonnie Lou Thomas of Moville, IA in 1946. To this union four children were born. Leonard and Bonnie were married for twenty years. He later married Ardice Anderson of Maskell, NE. Ardice passed away in 2003. Leonard lived in Newcastle, NE for many years. He drove a school bus for many years for Newcastle Public School.Leonard was a member of the American Legion, and past member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle. He loved listening to big band music and enjoyed watching Husker football.Survivors include his children, Leonard Stephen (Cindy) Schonrock of Osage Beach, MO, Saundra (Wendell) Wilson of McKinney, TX, Madeline Bruneau of Sioux City, IA and David (Kris) Schonrock of Sioux City, IA; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; and his brothers and sisters.
