Leonard Thomas

March 3, 1944 — February 11, 2022

Leonard Gene Thomas (Sungtokoa Waokiye), 77, of Sioux City passed away February 11, 2022 peacefully at home from a long battle with cancer surrounded by family.

Wake services will begin at 7:00 P.M. Monday, February 14, 2022 at St. Paul’s Indian Mission and will continue until the funeral service begins at 12:00P.M.  Wednesday at the church.  Burial will be at Hobu Creek Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his father, mother, and brothers. 

Leonard was born March 3, 1944 in Winnebago, NE, the youngest of nine boys to Raymond Sr. and Flora (Tuttle) Thomas.  He attended Hobson School in old south bottoms and Woodrow Wilson High School, also finishing mechanics trade school. 

Leonard worked various jobs throughout life to include Stronge Brothers, Big Boys Company, and Stephens Trucking doing sandblasting, manning feed and seed, and then worked at Goodwill Industries before retiring. 

Leonard united with Glady Fields for 14 years, with this his oldest daughter Angel Thomas was born.  Later he united with Kathy Yarborough, where his two youngest children Leonard Jr. and Nicole Yarborough were born.  He also raised Kathy’s five children:  David, Merle, Tye, Nathan, and Charlotte.  Leonard had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Flora Thomas, eight brothers:  Lorenzo, Donald, Raymond, Rudy, Kenneth, Very, LeRoy, and Lloyd and a grandchildren Alan.
