LeRoy D. Barsby, 81, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on January 10, 2011 at a Sioux City hospital.A prayer service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Visitation will be 11:00 A.M. to service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.LeRoy was born on January 27, 1929 on a farm outside Winnebago, NE to Allen and M. Margarette (Cain) Barsby. He moved to Texas at the age of 2, then to Northern California at the age of 7. He went to rural schools, and attended high school in Stockton, CA. He enlisted in the Army in 1948, serving in Italy, Korea three times, Canada on the Dew Line, Vietnam, Germany, Japan and the U.S. He married Carol Cain of Homer, NE in June, 1952. After retirement from the service he resided in Stockton, CA where he was employed until his second retirement. He then did volunteer work and traveled all 50 states, finally returning to South Sioux City, NE in 2005.He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and reading a good book.Survivors include his wife, Carol of South Sioux City; children, Vicky Brown of Rosalie, NE, Steven Barsby of Homer, NE and Jay (Jeanie) Barsby of Fresno, CA; grandchildren, Derek (Laurel) Brown, Austin Brown, Anthony deSimis, Alicia, Brandon, Cierra, Diana and Evan Barsby, Joshua (Lou) Goodall, Carol (Dacoda) Hewitt; great-grandchildren, Issac, Madelynn, Elijah and Callia Brown, and Dacoda Hewitt, Jr.; brothers, Ray A. (Becky) Barsby and John (JoAnne) Barsby; sister, Erma Jane Thibedeaux; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Sheryl and Stormy; and one sister, Judy DuVall.
