LeRoy "Lee" Harlow

April 5, 1939 — April 30, 2022

   LeRoy A. “Lee” Harlow, 83, of Castana, IA formerly of Sioux City, IA passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022 with his family by his side.

   Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2022 at Heartland Community Baptist Church in Sioux City with Pastor Gene Stockton officiating.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the church.  Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

   Lee was born April 5, 1939 at Worthington, MN to George and Jessie (Wibbens) Harlow.  He attended Worthington High School where he lettered in several sports, yes his favorite baseball team was the Yankees and his favorite player was Mickey Mantle.

  Lee married Judy K. Dirks on November 4, 1959 in Worthington and this union was blessed with two children.  After their marriage the couple moved to Sioux City.  Throughout the years, Lee worked at Pepsi, Lane’s Bottling, L&L Distributing, and Metz Baking.

   He enjoyed camping with the family, hunting, fishing, and when the kids were young, he had fun watching his daughter Deborah catch more fish than her brother Todd, it’s true guys.

   Lee was President of Westside Little League for 32 years and was one of the main people to help build and raise funds to build Kirk Hanson Park.  He greatly enjoyed little league and all the kids and parents that were a part of the program.  He coached youth football and was President of the program for four years before moving.  Lee umpired in the 1986 Little League World Series, the NBC World Series at Carroll, IA in 1991, and the Junior L.L. World Series at Taylor, MI in 1994.  He was the first umpire to do any World Series from Sioux City.  He conducted many umpire clinics for District 1 and 6 over the years.  He umpired for 58 years before retiring in 2006.  Lee received the Service Above Self Award by the Sioux City Rotary Club in 1987.  He was always willing to help the young and older people that wanted to learn to umpire.

   Those left to remember him are his daughter Deborah Lee Harlow-Marino and husband Mark, son Todd Henry Harlow and wife Tammy; grandchildren Mark Behrens Jr., Melissalee Kirkham and husband Matt, Dustin Harlow Behrens and significant other Patsy, Cody Henry Harlow and wife Mandi, and Hunter Lee Harlow and significant other Faith, Storm George and her husband Jason, Jade Freeman and her husband Justin, and Cody Marino; 18 great grandchildren; other relatives and his many special friends at Timber Ridge.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Judy in 2008; and two brothers Doug Harlow and wife Leora and Harry Harlow.
