Lloyd A. Petersen, 73, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Unity Point Health-St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, IA.Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at West Lawn Hillcrest Cemetery Memorial Park in Omaha, NE.Lloyd was born in Omaha, NE on October 20, 1942, the son of Rudolph and Henrietta (Maass) Petersen. He grew up in the Omaha area and graduated from Clarkson High School in Clarkson, NE. He worked on his aunt and uncle's farm. Lloyd married Judy Jordan in 1962 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Omaha, NE. The couple settled in Pender, NE where Lloyd began working for the Nebraska Dept. of Roads. The Dept. of Roads transferred him to South Sioux City in 1981, where he was a mechanic, then promoted to foreman, and continued to work until his retirement in 2008. After retirement he worked for the South Sioux City Law Enforcement Center. He also worked as a volunteer fireman for the South Sioux City Fire Dept. for 30 years, was an instructor for the Junior Fire Patrol program for many years, and worked as a security guard at the Dakota/Thurston County Fair for 28 years.He enjoyed spending time with his family, Nebraska football, playing solitaire on the computer and making popcorn. He was very loving and caring, a friend to many, and was quite a jokester.Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Judy Petersen of South Sioux City, NE; daughters, Kim (Leonard) Walker of Jackson, NE and Chris (Randy) Krisl of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Amber (Michelle) Zielieke, Kelly Petersen (Haley Donaldson), LaKeshia Walker, Whitney Walker (Derrick Holmes), Jordan Walker, Leslie Harlan and Jolene Hamilton; 5 great-grandchildren, Antonio, Yenesia, Carlos, Margarita, and Elih; a sister, Delores Hindman; brothers, Wesley Petersen and Lester Petersen; sister-in-law, Janet Petersen; aunt and Godmother, Viola Dorneman; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many special people in his life.Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Henrietta Petersen; a brother, Rollin Petersen; and sister-in-law, Carol Petersen.
