Long Thongphet

Long Thongphet passed away December 12th, 2018 in his home in South Sioux City at the age of 91. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 15th from 10AM to 3PM. Service will be on Sunday, December 16th at 2 PM with cremation to follow. Both visitation and service will be at the Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel located on 2600 Morningside avenue. Long was born in Laos on August 25th in 1927 to Wang and Chan Thongphet. He was married to Lam Thongphet with whom he had 4 sons and 1 daughter. Long attended college in Laos where he earned his 4 year degree. Long served in both the French Army and the Laos Royal Army as a police officer. In 1984, Long moved to the United States and settled in Dallas, Texas. In 1996, he moved up to Sioux City and worked for IBP. After retiring from IBP, Long had numerous hobbies. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He helped his children operate a local grocery store where he enjoyed greeting customers. He also was an avid fisher. Long is survived his wife, Lam; son Sean Thongphet of South Sioux City, son Paul Thongphet of South Sioux City, son Fong Thongphet of South Sioux City, son Sam Thongphet South Sioux City; daughter Vanessa Thongphet of South Sioux City; over 50 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Long is preceded in death by his parents, and 6 brothers and sisters.
