Madelyn S. Thorsland

Madelyn S. Thorsland, 81, of Dakota City, NE, passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2022.  Per her wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time.  Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery at a later date.  Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Madelyn was born on November 4, 1940 in Kanawha, IA to Kenneth and Rosella (Besch) Sabin.  She graduated from Kanawha High School and from Drake University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree.  Madelyn taught school in Livermore, IA before being untied in marriage to Samuel Thorsland on June 19, 1965.  They lived in various locations in Iowa and Missouri, and South Sioux City, before making their home in Dakota City. 

Madelyn was a stay-at-home mother to her two daughters until they went to elementary school, then she began her career as a County Assessor for Dakota County in 1977.  She retired in 2010.  She enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting, and especially loved spending time with her family. 

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters: Deanna (Ted) Crowe, MN and Tracy (Roger) Ewing, Sioux City; granddaughter, Hailey Crowe, MN; and a brother, Donald Sabin, WI.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother and husband.
