Mardel L. Copple, 90, of Homer, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Homer. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Burial will be at Omaha Valley Cemetery in rural Homer.
Mardel was born the daughter of Walter and Della (Jensen) Luesebrink on March 31, 1931 in rural Homer, Nebraska on the family farm. She graduated from Homer High School in 1949 and later attended Wayne State College. She married Keith Copple on June 3, 1951. After their marriage, they farmed west of Homer until Keith’s retirement in 1987 and then moved into town. Mardel taught in a country school west of Homer, then paused her career to raise her five children on the family farm. She then continued her career as a special education aide at Homer Community School for over 25 years.
She enjoyed playing cards, embroidering, baking pies, and spending time with her family.
Mardel is survived by her children, Stan (Deb) Copple of Homer, Joni (Steve) Burnham of Omaha, and Teri (Rich) Mercer of Jefferson; sister, LaVonne Goodsell of Dakota City; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews all who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith; and sons, Gene and Randy.
