Maria Rigas

Maria Rigas age 89 of Sioux City, IA, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. 

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Friday February 11, 2022 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 900 6^th St., Sioux City, IA  51101. Rev. Luke Melakrinos will officiate.  Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 A.M. Friday at the Church with a Trisagion prayer service at 9:30 AM.   Internment will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, 2701 S. Maria was born on November 5, 1932 to her parents George and Chrysoula Rigopoulou.  Maria was the eldest of three children born and raised in Kosmas, Greece. She was united in marriage to William Rigas on March 8, 1959 in Athens Greece.

Maria was a loving and caring mother, wife, sister, daughter in-law, aunt, Godmother, and friend to all.  Maria’s passion for her Greek Orthodox faith led to a life-long commitment of service to her faith.   Maria lovingly served her church with her beautiful singing talents as chanter and choir member and with her passion for baking wonderful Greek pastries.

Maria is survived by her most dear and loving sister Evangelia Giovani as well as many loving nieces and nephews in both the United States and Greece.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband William, infant son Christopher, and brother Panaiote Rigopoulou.

May the Lord grant Maria eternal rest and place her soul in the dwelling place of the righteous, where there is no pain, no sorrow, no suffering, but life everlasting.
