Marie "Pat" Byrne

   Marie T. “Pat” Byrne, 90, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

   A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Holy Cross Parish – Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  There will be a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service.

   Marie “Pat”, the daughter of William and Addie (Lyons) Byrne, was born January 14, 1931 at Garretson, SD.  Pat’s family lived in Willmar, MN before moving to Sioux City in 1946.  She was a graduate of Central High School in 1949.  Then she entered St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and graduated in 1952.

   Pat was very dedicated to her work as a nurse.  She was an R.N. for Dr. John Kelly for 17 years and for Dr. David Paulsrud for 24 years.  She also worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Vincent’s in the surgical unit.  Pat retired from nursing in December of 1994.

   Pat was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  She was a wonderful caregiver and cared for her mother for many years in the home they shared.

   She is survived by 16 nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Addie Byrne; two brothers, William Jr. (Ruth) Byrne and James (Fran) Byrne; one sister, Eleanor Feiler.

   Memorials in Pat’s name may be directed to the Queen of Peace or Sioux City Carmelites.
