Marilu was born to Ellen Crowell (Hill) and Merle Crowell on April 30, 1927, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in 1945. Marilu enrolled in North Central Bible Institute, known today as North Central University, in Minneapolis. While at NCBI, she met her future husband and love of her life, Boyd L. Hoferman. The couple were married on June 2, 1948, in Omaha. During the first 15 years of marriage, Marilu became mother to four daughters, Rita, Muriel, Juline and Lori. Marilu dedicated her life to her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and nothing made her happier than spending time with her family. She was an amazing seamstress and loved to sew dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. Every holiday was a celebration as Marilu was a tremendous cook. Marilu was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, growing beautiful varieties of flowers. She was also a talented artist and drew artwork for her college yearbook.

Through the years Marilu worked at Younkers, Sears, and other retail stores, but her life's work was as a loving pastor's wife at several Assembly of God Churches in Iowa including Fort Dodge, Moville, Gray, Perry, Sioux City Morningside Assembly, and Sioux City Central Assembly (now CrossPointe Church). She and her husband also pastored in White Bear Lake, Minn., and Grand Junction and Craig, Colo. Marilu worked tirelessly for others throughout her life.

Marilu is survived by her daughters, Rita (Paul) Timm, Muriel (Randy) Nelson, Juline (Derek) Albert, and Lori (Rick) Olson; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas Crowell, Charles (Rosemary) Crowell, and James (Kathy) Young; sister, Marjorie Martin; sisters-in-law, Margie Hoferman, Ruth Hoferman, and Donna (Robert) Strand; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Marilu was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Hoferman; mother, Ellen Hill; father, Merle Crowell; in-laws, Leo and Mamie Hoferman; brothers, Richard Crowell and William (Kathy) Crowell; and brothers-in-law, Duane Hoferman and Clinton Hoferman.
