 Marlan J. Hill, 83, of Sioux City, passed away on January 6, 2021 in Sioux City, due to complications of COVID.  A private Funeral Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Morningside Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Lovan officiating and Military Honors offered by the United States Army Reserve.  A private visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church.  A Family burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11th, at Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to your favorite charity.     Marlan was born to Marshall and Agnes (Salsness) Hill on January 4, 1938 in Sioux City, IA. Marlan grew up on the family farm near Sioux City. He graduated from East High in 1955. Later he received degrees from Wayne State and the University of Northern Colorado. He served in the U.S. Army for three years, where he was stationed in Japan and Korea working as a helicopter mechanic. 

 

    Marlan married Mavis Lorraine Carlson on October 19, 1963. This union was blessed with two daughters, Michelle and Melissa, and a son, Marshall.

 

    Marlan began his working career in Osceola, NE teaching business subjects. He then moved to Missouri Valley and later to Sioux City and served as a counselor at Central and West High Schools. He retired in 1999, after 39 years in the education field. Marlan enjoyed his life, family, motorcycles, horses, his corvette, and going to coffee. 

 

    He is survived by his wife, Mavis, of 57 years; children Michelle (John) Robinson, Melissa (Neel) Johnsen, and Marshall Hill; all of his grandchildren; and his sister Ellen (Phil Sparks) Shupe.

 

    He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law Robert Shupe.
