Marlan G. Millard, 84, of Hubbard, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 4, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hubbard, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hubbard with a luncheon to follow at the Hubbard Community Center.
Marlan was born the son of George and Martha (Zastrow) Millard on August 5, 1937 in Hubbard, Nebraska. He graduated from Jackson High School. Marlan married Margaret A. “Peggy” Merchant on January 20, 1958 in Willis, Nebraska. They made their home in Jackson and Hubbard. Marlan was a dairy farmer and worked for Dakota County Road Department operating a road grader and various heavy equipment for 36 years.
In his spare time, Marlan enjoyed fishing, hunting, tending to his mules, and playing cards. He could fix any engine he tinkered with. He was well known for throwing turkey parties, which turned into block parties the whole town enjoyed. His family and grandchildren meant the world to him. He loved to visit his friends and family any chance he got.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hubbard and on the Dakota County Planning and Zoning Board for many years.
Marlan is survived by his children, Harlan “Lonnie” (Paullette) Millard of Jackson, Steve (Michele) Millard of Hubbard, Mindy (Fred Barg) Messerschmidt of Hubbard, and Denise Millard of Jackson; brother, Gary (Barb) Millard of Emerson; 13 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Peggy, and brother, Harvey.
