Marta J. Hughes

Marta J. Hughes, 87, of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Marta was born on December 30, 1934 in Bartlett, Nebraska, to Melvin and Ruth Mignery.

She received her Bachelor of Arts from Wayne State College in 1952.

She married Duane F. Hughes in 1956. The two divorced in 1986.

Marta taught elementary school until 1959, and again from 1961-1965. After her teaching career, she stayed home to raise her four daughters.

Hobbies included: gardening and tending to her flowers, developing her own photos, playing Nintendo, playing piano, planting and doing yardwork, and visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include her daughters: Lisa Hughes Walz, Jennifer (Jerry) Jaminet, Dawn (Matt) Gaffey, and Michaela Hughes; grandchildren: Zach Walz, Austin Jaminet, Ireland Gaffey, and Ivy Gaffey; great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Tinely Jaminet.

She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband; sister; and her grandson, Nicholas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Jaminet, Austin Jaminet, Matt Gaffey, and Zach Walz.
