Marvin E. Hunt

Marvin E. Hunt, 77 of South Sioux City, NE passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from complications of a long illness.   Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. Rev. Michael Awe will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Becker Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will resume from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M. Sunday at the Hope Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M.   Marv was born April 8, 1941 in Washta, IA; he was the son of Oliver and Myrna (Pierce) Hunt. Marv grew up in the Washta area and graduated from Washta High School.   On October 13, 1963, Marv married Ada E. Puhrmann in Paullina, IA,   Marv attended Briar Cliff College and began working at the Manning-O’Toole Funeral Home. He attended the Milwaukee Mortuary Science School and then returned to Sioux City to work at the Manning O’Toole Funeral Home and then Meyer Brothers Funeral Homes. In 1979, he purchased the Becker Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City and still continued to work there. Marv worked many hours at the Sioux City Airport after the crash of Flight 232.   Marv was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City and had been a member of the Cosmopolitan Club in Sioux City. He enjoyed playing cards, painting figurines but most of all spending time with Ada, his children, his grandchildren and his friends.   Survivors include his wife Ada of South Sioux City, Nebraska; his daughters: Marie Wakefield of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Monica Mattoon of Sioux City, Iowa; 3 grandchildren: Danielle Bruggeman (Colton), Jacob Mattoon and Elizabeth Mattoon.   Marv was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters: Florence Hind (Bob), Ruby Peterson (Elmo) and Thelma Smith (Lloyd); a brother: Merlin Hunt (Barb)
