Mary Rose (Boyle) Hansen, 72, of Allen, NE passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, NE with Father Andrew Sohm officiating. Burial will be in Calvary at South Creek Cemetery in rural Ponca. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Monday, June 1, 2015, with a scriptural wake service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE.Mary was born June 8, 1942 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of James and Rose (McCulloch) Boyle. She was raised in rural Jackson, NE and graduated from South Sioux City Public High School in 1960.Mary married Kenneth Hansen on September 9, 1961 in Jackson, NE. To this union eight children were born. While raising her eight children, Mary proceeded to attend college and obtain a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education in 1983 from Wayne State College. In 1991 she received her Masters of Science degree in Elementary Education with a Special Education endorsement from Wayne State College. She began her teaching career by teaching for two years at Dixon Public Schools, then taught at Laurel-Concord Public School for over twenty years. Mary loved teaching so much, beginning in 2001 she was also an adjunct instructor for Wayne State College. Being a teacher and educator was very important and she really made a difference in her students lives.She was very active in St. Anne's Church in Dixon, NE and the Altar Society, as well as a long time member of St. Joseph's Parish in Ponca, NE. Mary enjoyed being a CCD teacher at these parishes. She was also active in the community as a 4-H leader for Dixon County.Mary enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren's events. It was very important to her to attend both academic and athletic events. She was an amazing mother and grandmother. Her family appreciates all of the extra efforts and the sacrifices which she made for her children and grandchildren.Mary is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Kenneth Hansen of Allen, NE; her children, Lee (Dawn) Hansen of South Sioux City, NE, David (Valerie) Hansen of Ponca, NE, Lisa (Doug) Thompson of Laurel, NE, Deanna (Chris) Bennett of Ponca, NE, Brian (Candice) Hansen of Waterbury, NE, Barbara (Scott) Pigg of Laurel, NE, Marcia (Sam) Malone of Lincoln, NE, Kristin (Lucas) Dixon of Anthon, IA; 28 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Henry (Peggy) Boyle of Conroe, TX, Pearl (Gary) Rohmiller of Collins, IA, Donna Helt of South Sioux City, NE, Joseph Boyle of Florissant, MO, Doloros (Lonnie) Clemon of Leawood, KS, John (Belinda) Boyle of Corsicana, TX, Jim Boyle of Chicago, IL and Danny Boyle of Florissant, MO; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rose Boyle.
