Mary Beth Johnson, 78 of South Sioux City, Nebraska, formerly of Sioux City and Newcastle, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025 comforted by family. A Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Newcastle, Nebraska. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Newcastle. Visitation, with the family present, will begin on Thursday at the church at 9:30 a.m. before the Mass. Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary was born on December 27, 1946 in Sioux City, Iowa to Perry and Rose C. (McGrath) Heydon. She was raised in Newcastle and attended Beauty School after graduation.
Mary married Delmer L. Johnson on August 10, 1968 in Sioux City, to this union, three children were born, Todd, Stacey, and Mark. She enjoyed having an in-home daycare and being a stay-at-home mother while raising her children before working outside the home at Mercy Hospital in the housekeeping department. She enjoyed playing Bingo, but found her greatest joy in any, and all time spent with her grandchildren. Mary was active in the St. Joseph Catholic community with her husband Delmer while in Sioux City, and prior to Delmer’s death in 2017.
Mary is survived by her son Todd (Nicole) Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska and daughter Stacey Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; brothers Joe (Shirley) Heydon and Bob (Diane) Heydon; sister Monica (Mark) Brewer; grandchildren Brittany (Justin) Woodley, Corey Johnson, Brody Johnson, and Myles Johnson; and great-granddaughter Charleigh Mary Beth Woodley.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, son Mark, husband Delmer, sister Barb, and brother Ray.
