Mary Lou McKinney, 87, of South Sioux City died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at a Sioux City hospital.Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 28, 2010, with the family present at 6:00 P.M., and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Roger Madden officiating at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Private family graveside services will be held on Saturday.Mary Lou was born on September 1, 1922 in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Hilray and Kathryn (Sutherland) Gulick. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in San Antonio. She was united in marriage with Donald McKinney on July 3, 1943 in San Antonio. To this union, five children were born. Following Don's discharge from the Air Force, the family returned to South Sioux City. Mary Lou was a homemaker, then worked as a seamstress for several years.She was a charter member of the South Sioux City Chamberettes, and a member of several other service organizations. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crafts, and she especially loved to read.Mary Lou is survived by her children, Don McKinney and his wife, Brenda of Ponca, NE, Kay DeLaughter and her husband, Don of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Pat Brandes and her husband, Rick of South Sioux City and Jan Anderson and her husband, Dave of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 66 years, Donald, in 2009; and her son, Paul.Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Paul, Brian and John McKinney, Traci Merchant, Adam DeLaughter, Lindsay DeLaughter, Brianna Reed, Blair Brandes, David Anderson and Kalee Anderson.
