Mary C. Murray

   Mary C. Murray, 85, of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at a local care facility. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Holy Cross Parish St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be at St. Cornelius Cemetery in Homer, Nebraska. A Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-7 p.m., with a Vigil Service and Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.    Mary was born on July 15, 1936 in Sioux City, to Harold and Mabel (Lebahn) O’Connor. She attended school at Creighton University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing on August 4, 1959. On August 16, 1967, she married Lynard G. Murray in Elk Point, South Dakota.

   Starting in 1974, Mary worked for over 20 years in Sioux City at St. Vincent, later to become Marion Health Center Hospital, as the head nurse of the Chemical Dependency Unit.

   In her free time, Mary loved cooking; she loved hosting Sunday dinner, and the whole family would look forward to her delicious meals and yummy deserts. She also enjoyed gardening; every summer her and Lynard would have a bountiful garden and year-round her house was filled with the most beautiful house plants. Mary also enjoyed fishing; every summer the family would spend time either at the family cottage on Lake Okoboji or at a cabin on one of the many lakes in MN. This is where her cooking skills came in handy, the family could look forward to a delicious fish fries cooked up at the end of the day by Mary.

   She also loved spending time with family, especially at her childhood home the family farm in Homer, NE.

   Survivors include her daughter, Ann Dodds (Chad) of Villa Grove, CO; brother, Paul O’Connor of Homer, NE; brother, Dennis O’Connor (Katie) niece Kathy Jacoby of WI. Grandchildren Stacia Dodds and Ethan Dodds of CO.  Many nieces and nephews on the Murray side of the family.

   Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lynard Murray, in 1992; daughter Terri Lyn, in 1968; parents: Harold and Mabel O’Connor; niece Marty O’Connor and nephew Dennis O’Connor.
