Mary was born on May 2, 1943 in Dakota City, Nebraska, to Waldo and Minnie “Ditty” (Swartz) Messerlie. She was a Dakota City resident throughout her life, attending Dakota City Schools. On June 22, 1959 she married John S. Swick in Dakota City. To this union, four children were born.
Mary worked in various industries, most notably as the secretary for JS Brothers, Inc. for over 50 years.
She was a longtime member of Dakota City United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years. She was a faithful prayer warrior, and would always pray for the loved ones in her life.
In her free time, Mary enjoyed dancing, shopping, and working her way through adult coloring books and word find books. She loved spending time with her family, and when her children were young the family enjoyed going on camping trips together. Mary loved to cook for the masses and would always prepare enough food to feed plenty more than she was serving!
